Focus on the Hypocrisy

On April 3, 2009, Juan Alberto Ovalle, who served Trans World Radio and the Spanish Broadcast department of Focus on the Family, was arrested for attempting to engage in sexual relations with an underage girl.

Here follow a couple of pertinent quotes accompanied by links.

'It is impossible but that offenses will come, but woe unto him, through whom they come! It were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and he cast into the sea, that that he should offend one of these little ones.' Luke 17: 1-2. From The Holy Bible. The Spanish translation, Santa Biblia, as read by Juan Alberto Ovalle, is available for purchase from Focus on the Family here.

‘During a second phone call while Ovalle was driving he stated he wanted to fuck doggie and for the portrayed child to sit on his face. Ovalle asked the portrayed child if she “sucked dick” and if she swallowed.’ From the arrest affidavit of Juan Alberto Ovalle on felony charges of Criminal Attempted Sexual Assault on a Child and Internet Luring of a Child on April 3, 2009. Ovalle’s Felony Arrest Affadavit.

Read the news story as reported in The Colorado Independent here.

On May 14th’s Focus on the Family radio broadcast, Focus on the Family’s Dobson, Tom Minnery, and Gary Bauer, and Congressman Louie Gohmert, first district in Texas, and Congressman Steve King, Iowa’s fifth district were discussing the recent hate crimes legislation. If you want to listen to the broadcast, click here. It was largely incoherent and hysterical partisan rambling, but notable in that on several occasions they were up in arms and beside themselves with indignation that the legislation could somehow be used to offer protections for PEDOPHILES, the worst of the worst. (I never got quite clear on how they reached that conclusion, their logic was convoluted). Still, they have no problem selling Bibles recited by an accused pedophile.

They certainly can't be held accountable for Ovalle's actions, but I do know they are well aware that Ovalle's Bible is still in their bookstore, because I informed them and the local station they air on, and was acknowledged by both. It's okay if he reads the Bible to someone else's little girl, and offers to bring her candy.... I guess the sanctity of scripture goes out the window when cash is involved.

Should you care to express your outrage, Minnery can be emailed at: tom.minnery@fotf.org
