Biblical Proof That Christians Should Support Health Care Reform Part Two
Let’s start this one with two quotes from the Bible, one from the Old Testament and one from the New Testament.
'Say unto them, As I live, saith the Lord GOD, I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked; but that the wicked turn from his way and live.' Ezekiel 33:11
'The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.' 2 Peter 3:9
Now let’s read the story of Jesus healing the ten lepers, which is in Luke 17:11-19.
'And it came to pass, as he went to Jerusalem, that he passed through the midst of Samaria and Galilee. And as he entered into a certain village, there met him ten men that were lepers, which stood afar off: And they lifted up their voices, and said, Jesus, Master, have mercy on us. And when he saw them, he said unto them, Go shew yourselves unto the priests. And it came to pass, that, as they went, they were cleansed. And one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, and with a loud voice glorified God, And fell down on his face at his feet, giving him thanks: and he was a Samaritan.
And Jesus answering said, Were there not ten cleansed? but where are the nine? There are not found that returned to give glory to God, save this stranger. And he said unto him, Arise, go thy way: thy faith hath made thee whole.'
Applied to a contemporary setting, that would be like nine Americans and one illegal Mexican receiving treatment at the hospital, with only the Mexican having the courtesy to say ‘Gracias.’
But that is not my point. My train of logic docks at the station with the parable of the man who had one hundred sheep, and when one became lost, he left the ninety nine in the wilderness to go and search for the lost one, and when he found it he hoisted it upon his shoulders and called his friends together to rejoice.
‘I say unto you, that likewise joy shall be in heaven over one sinner that repenteth, more than over ninety and nine just persons, which need no repentance.’ Luke 15:7
So it is that true Christians support health care for everyone, that those of faith may live to evangelize another day, while even if only one in a hundred non-believers is brought to glory, you will have done that which pleases God and the angels.
Or, continue your bizarre support of insurance company avarice controlling life and death, and run the risk of fulfilling another scripture: ‘I know the blasphemy of them which say they are Jews (or Christians), and are not, but are a synagogue (or church) of Satan.’ Revelation 2:9
