Oh When Their Prayers, Go Up In Smoke

With a unanimous vote in the senate last week, Louisiana lawmakers declared Sunday to be a day of prayer for the disaster in the gulf. They called on people of all faiths to chime in their supplications.

“Thus far efforts made by mortals to try to solve the crisis have been to no avail. It is clearly time for a miracle for us,” state Senator Robert Adley said in a prepared statement.

Let’s do some simple inferential deduction. You, Mr. Adley, are a Southern Republican, and also a man of prayer. If you toe the party line like a good GOP elephant, then you likely vote mostly Republican--if not always--and certainly in presidential elections. So it’s probably fair speculation on my part that leading up to the 2000 election, you were praying to God with might and main that George Bush win, that you voted for Bush, and that afterwards you offered up your heartfelt thanksgiving to God for prayer answered.

If that is the case—and we know the scenario was played out by millions of fundamentalist ‘Christians’—then the blood started to drip off your fingers the moment you struck that death blow with your vote. The blood of the earth in the gulf, Iraqi and Afghani blood, American blood, economic blood, cultural blood—your hands are drenched in it. Ironic, if the inconveniently green Al Gore had been elected, his Mineral Management Service might have been enforcing regulation rather than become the drug fueled brothel the Bush Cheney Halliburton BP beast trampled it into, and you'd be enjoying the gulf instead of praying for it. If God gave you exactly what you asked for, you have NO right to complain. Do you also pray that God keep pace with your caprices?

Well is it written of you hypocrites in Isaiah (1:15-17): And when ye spread forth your hands, I will hide mine eyes from you: yeah, when ye make many prayers, I will not hear: your hands are full of blood. Wash you, make you clean; put away the evil of your doings from before mine eyes; cease to do evil; learn to do well; seek judgment, relieve the oppressed, judge the fatherless, plead for the widow.

Notwithstanding that the Republican philosophy ignores everything God would have of you in that verse, you’d better prepare to pray for mercy if He finds you complicit and holds you accountable for the tragedy in the gulf when He fulfills this prophecy from Revelation (11-18), And the nations were angry, and thy wrath is come, and the time of the dead, that they should be judged, and that thou shouldest give reward unto thy servants the prophets, and to the saints, and them that fear thy name, small and great; and shouldest destroy them which destroy the earth.

Remedial Christ For Palin And Her Acolytes

Since thrusting herself into the public eye by accepting McCain’s offer to have her try and siphon the Hillary vote in the 2008 election, Sarah Palin has repeatedly proclaimed herself to be a Christian while repeatedly acting like anything but one. She is a veritable walking, talking manual of ‘How Not To Live in Christ’: the profound lack of humility, the hypocrisies, the exaggerations, the lies, the broken vows and the fearmongering—all are antithetical to what Christ taught.

Her continual screeching ‘drill, baby, drill,’ is not exactly respectful of God’s creation. There is a youtube video of her taking the microphone in the pulpit of her church in Alaska and discussing state business and gas and oil pipelines—like a moneychanger in a house of prayer. (Go to the 1:25 mark here.) She takes monies entrusted to her stewardship (many of the donors doubtless trusting her as a Christian) for one purpose and uses them for others. And if you give credence to the expression: ‘You know a person by the company they keep;’ we can measure her by that legion of devils she runs with over at Fox News. And make no mistake, Fox News is not a good place: it is a network that spews lies and hatred and evil.

And now Palin has publicly violated what is known as the Great Commandment—love thy neighbor as thyself.

In Judaism it is considered by many to be the one sentence summary of the Torah. It first appears in the Bible in Leviticus (19:18), when the law is given to Moses, and is emphatically reiterated by Christ in the gospels, and yet again by Paul in his epistle to the Galatians (5:14): ‘For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even this: Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.’ It is one of the core principles of Christianity, and is as important to making life better here as it is in getting your heart right with God, who doesn’t populate the kingdom with bitter harpies.

Jesus also said: 'This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you...ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you.' John 15:13,15.

But now Palin appears to have disregarded Christ twice in one fell swoop, in the brouhaha over the house next door in Wasilla. When author Joe McGinniss took up residence next to the Palins in Wasilla, did she show up with a smile, a pie and a pot of coffee? Nope, she went straightway to facebook and posted railing sarcasm. Granted, McGinniss is writing a book about her, but what better way to influence his pen and show him that the rumor mills were wrong than to smother him with kindness?

But now it’s come out that McGinnis was sought out by the neighbor who owns the home as a vengeful payback. It is reported that the Palins asked the neighbor to make some improvements on the house, offering to reimburse them, but that once said improvements were completed, the Palins withheld the cash. That’s not a demonstration of Christian neighborliness, that's LYING.

And she exacerbated the rancor by taking the money which she promised her neighbor--which would have created the concord she inherently preaches in professing to be Christian—and using it instead it to erect an enormous (and unsightly) fence. Fences are used to divide, not unite, and calling to mind perhaps the two most famous fences in history—the Great Wall of China and the Berlin Wall--begs the question: is Sarah Palin actually a communist masquerading as a Christian?
