This past Monday Michele Bachmann kicked off her presidential campaign with a speech in Iowa. Toward the end, when talking of some servicemen, she said: "Theirs was a demonstration of the holy scripture which says: Greater love hath no man than this, but that he lay down his life for his friends. That’s the kind of love that we Americans have for this great country. We stick together. We triumph together.”
That scripture is John 15:13.
But the sentiment is actually mentioned again in the first epistle of John. As her actions in Congress are continually turning her back on her fellow Americans, and oppressing those in need, she would do well to apprise herself of 1 John 3:16-18.
Hereby we perceive the love of God, because he laid down his life for us; and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren. But whoso hath this world’s good, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him? My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth.
