Why True Christians Abhor Republicans -- Part 5
I read last week that Pat Robertson had compared Sodom to the United States of America. Aside from Jesus being Lord, this may be the first time I have agreed with Robertson on anything. But then I listened to his remarks and realized that our agreement was but a coincidence: that we reached the same conclusion along very different paths of truth. Pat voiced his homophobic rhetoric to rail against New York's recently passed gay marriage law.
In the monologue here, Pat said: "I think we need to remember the term 'sodomy' came from a town that was known as Sodom, and Sodom was destroyed by God Almighty, and the thing that they practiced was homosexual activity and even they tried to rape angels who came down there, so that's the kind of people they were, but beyond that, when Jesus spoke of Sodom he didn't say anything about the homosexuality, he talked just the fact that business was as usual until God decided to destroy it." While my reasoning was informed by the Bible, Pat went on to blah blah blah that there hasn't ever been a nation that embraced homosexuality that has survived.
Perhaps the reason Jesus didn't mention homosexuality in conjunction with his reference to the destruction of Sodom, is because that wasn't the source of God's wrath against the city. (Homosexual activity in Sodom is never explicity stated in the scriptures, only vaguely implied. Read it for yourself.)
The 'business as usual' of that city is detailed here, in Ezekiel, 16:49-50. Behold, this was the iniquity of thy sister Sodom, pride, fulness of bread, and abundance of idleness was in her and in her daughters, neither did she strengthen the hand of the poor and the needy. And they were haughty, and committed abomination before me: therfore I took them away as I saw fit.
That bears an eerie resemblance to Republican America 2011, and as the Republicans take their scissors to state and national budgets, slashing programs that succor the poor, they numb themselves to the fact that the blades they wield are cutting real human flesh; and the red ink they slop all over is the blood of the needy and poor they injure, which blood indelibly stains the Republicans' fingers with guilt before God.
Meanwhile you, Pat Robertson, use your show's platform to exhort your viewers to vote Republican, brazenly stating that casting so is the Christian way to vote. Therefore Pat, in truth, you are committing the very abominable acts of the Sodomites that you decry in others. That is hypocrisy, and true sodomy, about which the Bible says: Woe unto you, Pat Robertson, Sodomite.
